Recommendation:

title

Adopt a resolution approving an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2022-23 Capital Improvement Plan to purchase an additional Engineering Construction Inspection Vehicle; assigning a Capital Improvement Program project number to initiate the purchase; authorizing the appropriation of $45,000 from the Engineering Undesignated Reserves to Capital Outlay Vehicles - Major (Account No. 820.45.50.000-7000.02); authorizing the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor to purchase the vehicle; and authorizing the City Manager to take all necessary steps to effectuate the purchase.

body

The Engineering Department currently has two high-mileage Construction Inspection vehicles that were purchased in 2006. Both vehicles are Ford F250 ¾-ton pickup trucks with over 125,000 miles, driven primarily within the City limits. The vehicles are used daily for inspection of City infrastructure - streets, curb & gutter, sidewalks, storm drainage, sewer collection systems, water lines, and traffic improvements.

One of the F250 Construction Inspection Vehicles will be replaced during Fiscal Year 2022-23. With the delay in available vehicles and supply chain disruption, it’s taken over a year to receive delivery of the vehicle. As such, it’s prudent for Engineering to move forward to replace the other F250 Construction Inspection Vehicle at this time. Both vehicles are scheduled for replacement.

Fiscal Impact:

The additional replacement vehicle will be funded via the Engineering Undesignated Reserves. Staff recommends the following:

1.                     Amend the Fiscal Year 2022-23 Capital Improvement Plan to include the additional Replacement Engineering Construction Inspection vehicle.

2.                     Assign a Capital Improvement Plan project number for the Engineering Construction Inspection vehicle to initiate the purchase.

3.                     Appropriate $45,000 from the Engineering Undesignated Reserves to the Fiscal Year 2022-23 Capital Outlay Vehicles - Major (Account No. 820.45.50.000-7000.02).
