Recommendation:

title

body

Background:

The Fire Department has an existing contract with Interwest Consulting Group to provide plan check services for fire code compliance as part of the City’s development review process. These services are essential in ensuring that both residential and commercial projects meet all applicable fire safety regulations prior to the issuance of building permits.

Since the beginning of the current fiscal year, the Fire Department has experienced an increase in the volume of plan reviews assigned to our division. This increase is largely attributed to a rise in commercial development activity across the City. Commercial projects tend to be larger and more complex than residential projects, requiring more in-depth and time-consuming reviews to ensure full compliance with applicable fire and life safety codes.

The increased workload has exceeded the capacity that was originally anticipated under the current contract amount of $75,000. In order to continue providing timely and thorough plan check services, and to avoid delays in the development review process, an amendment to the Interwest Consulting Group contract is necessary.

Staff is requesting that the contract amount be increased to $110,000 to ensure continued support through the end of the fiscal year and to meet the current demand levels.

Fiscal Impact:

There is sufficient funding in the Fire Department’s FY2024-25 operating budget to cover the proposed contract amendment.
