Background:
The Recreation & Community Services Department applied for, and was awarded, a grant from the Library & Literacy Foundation for San Joaquin County in the amount of $15,000 to support City of Manteca’s first Poet Laureate Program. This program will promote and celebrate the arts, support local poets, and enhance the cultural vibrancy of our community.
The Library & Literacy Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to supporting literacy and educational programs in our county. Their generous grant will provide funding for the Poet Laureate Program, which will select and appoint a local poet to serve as the official ambassador of poetry for the City of Manteca. The Poet Laureate will be responsible for creating and presenting poetry at community events, schools, council meetings, and other public venues. They will also be a resource for local poets and literary organizations, providing guidance and support for the development of literary arts in our community.
We believe that the Poet Laureate Program will enrich our community and promote the arts, and we are grateful for the support of the Library & Literacy Foundation in making this possible. The program will be administered by the Recreation Department in collaboration with the Manteca Library.
