Recommendation:

title

Adopt a resolution approving a budget appropriation of $272,000 from Fire Facilities Fees; approve a Professional Services Agreement with Apex Site Solutions for an amount of $272,000;  Amend the 2024-25 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) for  Radio Communications Infrastructure Upgrade (CIP 24009); and authorize the City Manager to sign, and take all necessary steps to effectuate the agreement.

body

Background:

The Fire Department is currently in the process of upgrading our radio infrastructure.  When Fire Station 5 (1675 E. Woodward Avenue) was constructed back in 2020, the radio tower was omitted at that time for cost savings on the project.    Currently, the Fire Department is utlitizing a tower outside of city limits for fire communi ations. The tower owner in now requiring the city to enter into a long-term lease which is not beneficial to the city.    To avoid the long-term lease and future crowding issues at the vendor’s tower site shelter, we are recommending the construction of the Fire Station 5 tower which will accommodate both the new radio infrastructure upgrade equipment, as well as the existing radio infrastructure.  Apex Site Solutions is the current subcontractor providing the tower work for the radio infrastructure upgrade and is being sole sourced for this project to maintain continuity and consistency within the radio infrastructure upgrade project.

Fiscal Impact:

Staff recommend appropriating $272,000 from the Fire Facilities Fees (Fund 530) reserves for the Radio Communications Infrastructure Upgrade Project (CIP 24009). Sufficient funds are available in the Fire Facilities Fees (Fund 530) reserves.

There is no General Fund impact.
