Recommendation:

title

Adopt a resolution accepting a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (CA OTS) Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.); approving an agreement with California Office of Traffic Safety in the amount of $130,000 for Federal Fiscal Year 2026 (Oct. 1, 2025 to Sept. 30, 2026); appropriate $130,000 to Police Grants (Fund 150) revenue and expenditure accounts; and authorize the Chief of Police to sign said agreement.

body

Background:

Manteca Police Department will use the grant funds to increase criminal enforcement and education of driving under the influence (DUI) laws and increase traffic enforcement operations for unsafe driving commonly associated with injury and fatal collisions.  The grant funding will cover Police Department employee overtime expenses for DUI checkpoints, DUI saturation patrols, traffic enforcement operations along with training and equipment to assist with traffic safety.

Fiscal Impact:

Receipt of funding for this grant will be on a reimbursement basis per federal fiscal quarter.  Therefore, staff recommends appropriating $130,000.00 to both revenue and expenditure account lines in Police Grants (Fund 150).
