body

Background:

The Fire Department is currently facing apparatus challenges including a lack of backup vehicles, aging fire engines, increased need for repairs, and long build times.

An opportunity exists to purchase a Stock Engine from Golden State Fire Apparatus with delivery expected in January 2025. This engine would replace a 2002 fire truck at Station 4, which would be moved to reserve status adding depth to the fleet.

The Stock Engine is less customized but offers quick availability and is backed by warranties and service. The purchase price of $930,961 includes engine and necessary equipment for service. The additional $119,039 appropriation is needed for the upfit and modifications to make the fire engine fully operational and ready for frontline service.

Fiscal Impact:

Staff recommend Council approve appropriations in the following funds:

Sufficient funding exists among the reserves of the above funds for the recommended appropriation for this purchase.
