Recommendation:

title

Proclamation proclaiming November 2026, as National Native American Heritage Month.

body

Background:

National Native American Heritage Month was formally designated in 1990 when President George H. W. Bush approved a joint congressional resolution recognizing November as a month dedicated to honoring the nation's first inhabitants and their descendants.

Since its establishment, the observance has served as an opportunity to increase public understanding of Native American history and recognize the important role Indigenous communities have played in the development of the United States.

The recognition also encourages continued education and meaningful conversations about the experiences, accomplishments, and ongoing contributions of Indigenous peoples. The City Council's presentation of this proclamation reflects its support for cultural awareness and recognition of the many communities that have helped shape our nation's history.

Proclamation will be presented to Dyannah Pace.
