body

Background:

The Manteca Police Department applied for a grant to participate in the Tobacco Law Enforcement Grant Program, which is made available through The California Healthcare, Research and Prevention Tobacco Tax of 2016 (Prop 56) and administered by the California Department of Justice (DOJ) to support local efforts to reduce the illegal sale of tobacco products to minors in the City.

The Department was awarded the grant for a three-year program beginning November 21, 2025 and ending June 30, 2029.  Grant funds will be used by the Manteca Police Department to cover overtime costs related to tobacco enforcement operations.

Fiscal Impact:

The $169,200 Tobacco Law Enforcement Grant is reimbursable; the city will be compensated for actual costs incurred, up to the grant amount.

Appropriations for the reimbursable periods of FY 2026-27, 2027-28, and 2028-29 will be included during the regular budget processes for each year.

There is no fiscal impact for FY 2025-26.
