Background:
The City is required to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504), as amended; California Government Code Sections 11135-11139.5; title 24 of the California Code of Regulations; and other applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations protecting the rights of Qualified Individuals with a Disability.

Part of the criteria for receiving funding from CalTrans and/or the Federal Department of Transportation is that the City maintain and make progress toward its ADA Transition Plan. This Plan requires the City to conduct public outreach, inspect facilities, parks, sidewalks, streets, other public areas, and identify a schedule for improvements in order to be ADA compliant.

In 2022, the City underwent an ADA assessment by CalTrans. After that assessment, and in the following years through early 2025, the City was placed on a corrective action plan and was issued specific required corrective action items that had to be addressed to ensure compliance with the ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

The City has been working with Disability Access Consultants, LLC (DAC) who has provided expert consulting services in assisting the City with planning, completing and responding to the action items required by CalTrans. In May 2025, CalTrans confirmed that the City was no longer on a corrective action plan and was in compliance with the ADA and Section 504.
