title
Provide an update to the Public Safety Sales Tax Oversight Committee regarding the Fire Department

body
Background:
In 2006, the City established a Public Safety Sales Tax spending plan to strengthen Police and Fire Department services through a dedicated revenue source. Since then, Measure M funding has played a critical role in supporting Fire Department staffing and sustaining reliable emergency services.

Measure M currently funds 18 full-time positions: three Battalion Chiefs, three Captains, three Engineers, and nine Firefighters. This represents the staffing equivalent of two fire companies operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. These positions are integral to the department’s emergency response capability and help maintain consistent service levels as demand increases.

To date in 2026, the Fire Department has responded to 10,037 calls for service, reflecting continued growth in EMS and fire-related incidents. Station 2 remains the City’s busiest fire station, accounting for a significant share of the department’s total call volume. This concentration of demand places substantial pressure on frontline personnel and underscores the importance of Measure M-funded staffing.

As call volume increases and development continues throughout the City, demands on Fire Department resources will continue to grow. Measure M remains essential to sustaining staffing levels, supporting operational readiness, and ensuring effective emergency response.

The Manteca Fire Department appreciates the Public Safety Sales Tax Oversight Committee’s continued oversight and support and remains committed to providing high-quality, dependable emergency services to the community.
