Background:
National Poetry Month seeks to highlight the extraordinary legacy and ongoing achievement of American poets. The Academy of American Poets established the month of April as National Poetry Month in 1996. Under the leadership and direction of the Academy of American Poets, National poetry month is now the largest literacy celebration in the world.
City of Manteca’s Poet Laureate Tara Rico will accept the proclamation and read a poem.
