Background:

Raymus Homes and Atherton Homes is currently working with City staff on the design of multiple new neighborhood parks in the Griffin Park subdivision.  Toni Raymus and Albert Boyce, the Developer representatives, have formally requested that the park in phase ‘A’ be named after Willie Weatherford.

Mr. Weatherford is a long time Manteca resident, former Chief of Police, former Council member and Manteca Mayor for twelve years.  He was involved in numerous projects including the Water Treatment plant, Development of Woodward Community Park, Big League Dreams and many other community projects.  Mr. Weatherford was also a founding member and driving force in the formation of the Manteca Boys and Girls Club.  He is also a member of the Manteca Hall of Fame’s Class of 2000.

The naming request meets all criteria in accordance with the City of Manteca Standards and Specifications for Landscape Development Park Naming Policy.  Attached to this report is the formal request and signature page that are required as part of the naming policy.

Fiscal Impact:

There is no fiscal impact for this request.  As part of the development conditions, the developer is required to purchase and install all signage for the park.
