Background:
The Transit Center is a 9,695 square foot, single story building that houses both assembly uses and administrative services for the City of Manteca. Construction on the Transit Center commenced in 2012 and was completed in 2013.
In 2013, a permit was issued for three accompanying shade structures located to the southeast of the Transit Center. Each of the shade structures is 18'-10" x 153' with low-sloped roofs to support solar panels that provide electricity to the Transit Center.
On August 26, 2017, a utility truck, making a delivery to the Transit Center for a private event, attempted a U-turn under one of the shade structures. The cargo box hit the shade structure's steel tapered rigid supports severely damaging the member and damaging the light gage steel purlins.
On August 7, 2018, the City Council took the following action: Adopted a resolution amending the FY2018-19 Capital Improvement Plan to include constructing the Manteca Transit Center Shade Structure Repair Project; determined Stratus Construction Co. to be the lowest responsive bidder for the Project; awarded the contract to same for an amount not to exceed $149,416.72; and authorized the City Manager to sign the agreement and all necessary documents and approve change orders in accordance with the City Purchasing Policy.
